Health Issues Centre was established in 1983. One of our early activities was running a complaints hotline to inform the development of the Health Services (Conciliation and Review) Act 1987.

At that time, the interests of health professionals and funders were well represented but the voice of consumers was not considered in policy and decision-making within the health system.

Health Issues Centre became a voice for the people – gathering individuals from diverse backgrounds – to start a social movement that put the consumer first.

In the over 35 years of our existence, Health Issues Centre has remained committed to championing the voice of everyday people in all aspects of our healthcare system.
