With funding from Safer Care Victoria, we recently hosted two online forums with consumers and health professionals to discuss the revised Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights. One featured Alfred Health presenting their Patients Come First Strategy which has focused on encouraging staff to embed the Charter in day-to-day practice and has led to innovative promotion of the Charter to patients, including providing examples of what the Charter means to patients in practice. Alfred Health’s excellent presentation, jointly done with one of their Consumer Advisors, begins at 12 minutes in this video.

The second forum involved Albury Wodonga Health describing how they have linked healthcare rights with patient experience and Heywood Rural Health give a highly topical presentation on promoting healthcare rights in residential aged care. Both presentations stimulated insightful questions and discussion, and can be viewed in full here. Both videos begin with Health Issues Centre’s Dr Tere Dawson describing the key changes you need to know in the new Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights (5 minutes in).
